Towkay Hew Kiew
Mr. Hew Kiew was the second son of Mr. Hew Zhee Fah, from Mei Xian, a town in Guangdong province of China. Mr. Hew Zhee Fah went to Acheh, Indonesia before coming to Ipoh. He worked as a mechanic on the railway.
Mr. Hew Kiew started a grocery shop, named Yee Heng, at the age of 18. When he was 24 years old, he founded an export-import business between Ipoh and Thailand, named Hup Chai. He only started to involve in tin-mining business at the age of 27. He was the first Chairman of the Perak Hakka Association (also known as the Perak Khek Community Association) from 1949-1952 and also the Chairman of the Perak Kaying Association.
