Mr. Toh Chee Wai was born in 1911 in “Jiao Liang”, a town in Guangdong province of China. He received his education there before coming to Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. After the World War II, he worked at a foreign tin-dredging company. Then he opened several Amang factories, and hailed as the “King of Amang” in Perak. He also owned a tin-mining company and the Malaya Heng Yip Bank.

As a philanthropist, he has donated $30,000 for the construction of the Kaying Association building and also initiated the donation drive for it. He was the President of Kaying Association for four years, Consultant for the “Jiao Liang” Association, one of the founders of the Perak Hakka Association, and Vice-Chairman of the Perak Shooting Club. He was awarded the Justice of Peace (J.P.) and a Dato’ in 1967 and again in 1971. He has 9 sons and 4 daughters.
