Remark :

The pictures show random scenes from the famous Lake Gardens in Taiping, Perak. The area was formerly a tin mine, which was later turned into a recreation area in 1880. The person behind this idea was Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker. The garden was developed by Charles Compton Reade - who also planned the Kuala Lumpur garden town. It is said to be one of the oldest gardens in the country, covering around 62 hectares. This 62 hectares includes ten scenic lakes and ponds, as well as beautiful flowers and shady Angsana trees (golden rain trees). More information about the lake gardens can be found at this website - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiping_Lake_Gardens

Other than being a popular venue for picnics and jogging, the Lake Gardens also offers Paddle-Boat rides across the lake. To what we know, there was also a golf course within the vicinity, but it was closed around 1995.

These pictures are part of Percival Moss’ collection. Moss once worked in Taiping, from 1888 to around 1910. He sewed uniforms for the Malay States Guides and other military organisations. We are grateful that his grandson Bernard lent us these pictures for the website.
