Dr Wu Lien Teh At His Desk, Ipoh
This photograph reproduced from 'Memories of Dr Wu Lien Teh', shows Dr Wu Lien Teh, at his desk in Ipoh.
He was also known as Gnoh Lean Tuck, and internationally known as 'The Plague Fighter' for the groundbreaking work he did in Manchuria.
He was the vice-president of the Penang Anti-Opium Association in 1906, and played a key role in the first Anti-Opium Conference in Ipoh. He retired to Ipoh at the age of 58 in 1937, when his home in Shanghai was destroyed during the Japanese invasion in China. Then, he started a small practise at 12 Brewster Road, and gave his support to the Perak Chinese Amateur Dramatic Association and the Ipoh library project.
Dr Wu Lien Teh is featured in the book "Doctor's Extraordinaire".
