Remark :

The following pictures are from Keith Nelson - a former serviceman who served in Ipoh from 1958-59.

Picture 1: A trishaw pasing through an unknown part of town in Ipoh.

Picture 2: Keith Nelson in a trishaw. According to Hasbi (one of our Blog Readers), "Government PWD quarters as in the picture used to be seen around Connolly Road and Maxwell Road for single and semi detached units. Greentown were a vast area and scattered with singles, semi-detached units and ground terraced units. This picture most probably taken along Jalan Abdul Jalil towards the army camp at the end of the road."

Another Reader, T Toh, "This photograph must be taken either in the late fifties or early sixties. After carefully examining the photograph, I am positively sure that this was taken in Greentown.I do agree with Hasbi that it was probably taken along Jalan Abdul Jalil. The road running parallel to this road is Jalan Sir Chulan. The houses along Jalan Sir Chulan were all two bedroom semi detached brick houses except for one which I grew up in.I vividly remember that to the left of this road was a huge double two storey bungalow. The main Convent school is situated in the opposite direction of this road ( approximately 200 meters ). Then, there was a huge padang along this road where I would watch the local soccer match. Mr Nelson would have been one of the British armed forces members serving in Malaya at that time.Their barracks were situated next to Caning Gardens. There was a huge Buddhist temple along this road.I could vividly remember the small playing field to the right of this photograph. This was where I played soccer with my brothers and friends while I was growing up in Ipoh more than forty years ago. One of my very closest friend was Dr Lee Wai Ming, who had a GP clinic at Leong Sing Nam Street."
