Remark :

This is the first part of a collection of laser scanned photographs of life in Kamuning, Sungei Siput donated generously by John Hembry. The first part includes photos of John, Boris Hembry (John's father), and also friends of Boris.

The first is a photo of Boris and Jean (Wife) Hembry taken in back in England in 1935. The second photo from the left is a photo of Boris Messina Hembry taken at the Kamuning Estate, Sungei Siput in 1949 where he was the Assistant Manager of the estate from 1935 to 1941 and became the Manager from 1946 to 1952. The third photograph from the left is one of Boris and Jean reunited after World War II at Kamuning Estate dated 1946.

The next photograph is one that has 'Robby' Robinson on the left with his 2 sons, Ronald Graham and young John Hembry in what we believe to be a pool, taking a dip on a nice day, this was taken at the Kamuning Estate as well in 1940. Robby Robinson died of Malaria while with Bob Chrystal (Manager of the Kamuning estate before Boris) in the jungle, Ronald Graham however escaped from Pudu Gaol in Kuala Lumpur in 1941 where he was a prisoner of the Japanese, only to be recaptured in Bentong where he was then kept in solitary confinement for several days, without food or water, made to dig his own grave and beheaded.

The fifth photograph is one of John Hembry at the age of 5 dressed as a Malay mata mata (policeman) for the Ipoh Club Children's Fancy dress party in 1941. Last but not least is the photo of Boris Hembry together with his manager at the time Bob Chrystal who he was assistant to and also a young John Hembry, the photograph was taken in 1940 at the Kamuning Estate.
