Remark :

The first picture shows Mano sitting on his father's motorcycle - AJS 350cc. This photo was taken at the end of a block of houses in New Pasir Puteh, where (according to Mano) the Fabulous Thunderbirds were from.

The second picture shows Mano's brother Rajah. This is a three wheeler Piaggio Ape, advertising for 'Ovaltine'. Mano tells us that at the time the picture was taken, Rajah had "wrecked his tricycle" and left one of the wheels near the scooter.

The two brothers also shared these thoughts with us (on our Blog):

Mano

Imagine instead of Ovaltine the Milo ‘tin’ on the Piaggio trike. That was the Milo mobile. Both the ‘tins’ had compartments for the dispenser and storage spaces for the paper cups. Plastic cups were unknown then. Interestingly, it was also an Indian man on this Ovaltine mobile too. However, what intrigues me though was how the beverage was kept and discharged chilled? Was there a compressor motor installed within the vessel? Or was it simply dry ice?

On a different note, these chocolate beverages definitely tasted a lot better before being manufactured locally. Ask anyone from the 50′s and they will relate to you how, when mum wasn’t around, they’d grab a couple of spoon full from the tin straight into their mouths. Especially Milo, It was Cadbury chocolate; powdered! Then one day, sometime in the early to mid 60′s, it tasted like mud!

Rajah

I agree with Mano that both Ovaltine & Milo tasted different back then. These days they have sediments like “mud” at the bottom of your cup. I think we all used to scoop a spoon full when Mom was not around. I have vague memory of that Ovaltine Cart but I don`t remember sitting on it!
