Estimated Year : 1981
Media Type : Ephemera

Remark :

This is the first of a three part series of an illustrated stamp collection which was part of Ruth Rollit's childhood. As the name of the album would suggest, it consists of stamps from both Malaysia and Singapore dating back to the year 1953. According to a member of the Ipoh Stamp Collection Group, Ms. Vera Radnell, the stamps in this particular stamp album are of three (3) different conditions namely; mint hinged, used hinged and Cancelled-To-Order (CTO).

Below are short definitions for the terms that describe the conditions of the stamps in this particular album:

1. Mint Hinged - are unused stamps that shows disturbance on the gum of the stamp due to a stamp hinge being used to mount the stamp.

2. Used Hinged - are stamps that would have been used to send mail through the postal system. The overall quality of the stamp determines its value more than anything else.

3. Cancelled-To-Order (CTO) -  are mint (new) stamps cancelled by postal authorities or authorized agents and have never been used for postal duty. For some stamps in this album however they are first day issue cancelled stamps according to Ms. Vera.

Coming back to the stamps in this entry - Part 1 - Singapore, the stamp collection begins with a stamp issued on June the 2nd 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and ends with stamps issued on the 25th of August 1981 on the theme of "Sports for All".
