Press Cutting - For Yuen, It Was Nation Before Self
This article was written as a tribute to Tan Sri Dato Seri Yuen Yuet Leng, a former teacher-turned-policeman and Special Branch top brass officer, who passed away at the age of 88. Yuen was also a key figure in the Malayan police force when they battled against the Coomunist Insurgents during the Malayan Emergency.
The main article, dated 2 October 2015, talks about Yuen's dedication to his job. Despite the many dangers that followed his profession, Yuen always put the nation before himself. It is said that Yuen was once shot at (by the Insurgents) during an ambush in Sungai Siput, and he carried the bullet in his body throughout his life till his passing.
The sub-article (extreme right column), written by Nabilah Hamudin, is a short interview with the late Tan Sri Yuen's widow - Puan Sri Chan Choy May. According to her, her late husband loved his job and was rather unhappy with the recent racial and corruption issues.
Tan Sri Yuen was also the author of two books - 'Operation Ginger' and 'Nation Before Self'
