The first photograph is that Tham Sien Ye, of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), Force 136 (Malaya). Born in Ipoh, Perak, Tham first received military training in Chungking during the Sino-Japanese war. He was later recruited by Lim Bo Seng and received training in guerilla warfare in India. He became a leading member of Force 136 (Malaya) and was part of the original group of Force 136 members who returned to Malaya via submarine in 1943. Tham was responsible for intelligence work in the Bukit Bidor base camp and covered duties for Lim Bo Seng when the latter left the base camp. After the war, Tham retired from active military service and became a businessman.

The second photograph is that of Mr. J. D. Kelly, a former Chindit, is Commandant of the Perak Special Constabulary Re-training school at Ipoh, Malaya, 1953. The next picture is that of men of the 1st Bn, The Loyal (north Lancashire) Regt, returning to Colombo Camp, where Malay workmen are erecting a "BASHA" hut for use as an office (1958).

The third photograph is that of Sgt. William Goldie of the 1st Bn, The Loyal (North Lancashire) Regt, searches a Malay cyclist on a road near Ipoh for any supplies or materials he may be smuggling through to the communist guerillas. (1958). Last but not least is the photograph of a Malayan funeral procession at Ipoh in 1952.
