Remark :

The photographs in this entry are those of an ice seller's box and saw. Made out of wood lined with zinc and held together by a steel frame, the box would be loaded onto the back of a bicycle. The ice blocks (2 in a box) would rest on a layer of sawdust at the bottom of the box to keep it cool and is covered with a gunny sack.

The seller would saw the ice on the spot for the customer and he / she would have to clean it up before consumption as it would be covered in sawdust.
