A Collection Of 3 Galvanised Basins
The photographs in this entry are those of a collection of 3 galvanised basins that vary slightly in size.
These were probably used to wash the clothes and other laundry among other things.
For blankets or other large items, washing normally took the form of standing in the tub and stamping out the dirt.
Galvanising is a method of electro-plating steel with zinc to make the item hard wearing and longer lasting in the presence of water. Tinplate, more suited to lighter work, is not suitable for such regular rough usage.
