Location : Malim Nawar, Perak
Estimated Year : 1963
Media Type : Photograph

Remark :

We thank our donor - Richard Saxey - for these pictures. Richard's father once worked at the Perak Hydro Power Station in Malim Nawar. Perak River Hydro-Electric Power Company Ltd had its HQ along Cooper Road, Ipoh.

In the first picture, the gentleman in white is Stuart Dundas from Chenderoh Dam. The taller gentleman in the back is Roy Sawyer while the man in the middle (with dark glasses) is Richard's father - Frederick James Saxey - who was the Superintendent of the power plant back in the 1960s. On the far right (also wearing dark glasses) is John Smith, the General Manager of Perak River Hydro-Electric Company (PRHEC). According to our Blog Reader Ipoh Remembered, the Chinese gentleman (standing between Dundas and Saxey) is Dr Lim Swee Aun - Minister of Commerce and Industry in the federal cabinet of Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman. Standing next to Roy Sawyer in the back (sixth from left) is Bahaman Samsuddin, the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare.

The other pictures show the same group of men walking the grounds of the power station.

See pictures from the Sawyer family's collection.
