Remark :

This article from the Star Metro on 21 September 2011 reprints an article from 10 February 1978 entitled "The Stubborn Cave Dwellers".

The article tells the story of how three families refuse to move from their homes at Gunong Cheroh despite the terrible tragedy of six years before when a row of houses were crushed by a huge rock fall and landslide and 38 residents were killed. Since then, the State Government have issued many warnings of the likelihood of further landslides but the three families stay put.

One resident 65 year old Mr Loo (who has eight children living with him) said that he had no option but to stay in his home as he cannot go elsewhere. His neighbour Maheswaran, a labourer, said he was afraid for his family but had no choice as he could not afford to live elsewhere with his small wages.
