Remark :

This book is about growing up in Malaya in the 1950's-60's during and after the end of British colonial rule.

Economically, life was tough and poverty was widespread after the Japanese occupation but socially and culturally, it was rich and fulfilling as facilitated by functioning families and supportive community relationships.

Taking Tapah, a small town in Perak as the focal point and the Government English School as a fine example of multiculturalism, the author recalls the "good old days" when harmony and genuine friendship were a way of life, irrespective of race, culture and religion. Lifelong bonds were forged as the children studied and played together in this co-ed school, also known then for its sports excellence.

A heartwarming read for all who value multiculturalism, racial harmony and goodwill.
