Chan Sam Lock - A Brief History
Immediately after the war in 1946 was when Chan Sam Lock started his business as he had prior experience working for one of the Ipoh newspaper offices as a staff photographer. The photograph above was taken at 82, Brewster road (right across the street from the "new" premises that closed in 2017).
71 years on, the business was forced to close in 2017 as a result of consecutive losses two years prior to its closing. The business had won numerous competitions and in 1992, was listed in the Malaysian Book of Records for having Malaysia's largest wedding studio.
Chan Sam Lock photographers were responsible for taking countless photos of graduations, family gatherings and other social events, like the investiture of the Sultans, at the palace in Kuala Kangsar.
