Remark :

We thank our donor - Ann Kesselring Hamon - who is the daughter of Ralph Kesselring (a Methodist Missionary) for these pictures. They were scanned from 35mm Kodachrome slides. Ann shared the following with us:

These are pictures of our cook, Chew Ah Heng, and wife and family. The sons were (in order of age) Ah Kow, Ah Lek, Ah Wah, and Ah Chew and the girls were Say Han and Ah Yoke. Ah Heng also helped with the marketing and cooking for Horley Hall. Every one in a while he would make ice cream in our hand cranked ice cream maker. We would take out an amount for us and then there would be added a can of maize for the Horley Hall boys. Ah Heng was a wonderful cook. I remember especially his stuffed crab and his pineapple sherbet. Say Ham helped clean and  take care of all three of us girls. All the kids were encouraged to attend school and I think my parents helped with their fees. Say Ham went on to be a midwife and at least one of the boys became a teacher.

Horley Hall was part of Anglo Chinese School (ACS Ipoh). The pictures show (from left to right):

  1. Chew Ah Heng and family (1956).
  2. Chew Ah Heng's sons (1956/57).
  3. Chew Ah Yoke and Chew Ah Chew (1956/57).
