Vintage Soap Grater
The picture above show a vintage soap grater. It was made of metal and embossed with the name Sunlight Soap at one end and at the other Lifebuoy Soap, which indicates it is made by Lever Brothers. It was probably given away as a promotional item in the early days.
Back to the old days before soap powder, soap flakes or loquid detergent were available or affordable people used a grater to grate bars of soap into smaller fine pieces. The grated soap was then added to warm water o make a soapy solution suitable for washing clothes. To know more about another type of grater click the link below.
