Shaikh Adam Road - The First In Malaya To Have Parking Meters
The picture shows Shaikh Adam Road where the first parking meters in Malaya were placed. Another first for Ipoh was the multi-storey car park, which was not far from Shaik Adam Road, built in 1962 and the first such structure in Malaya. In the photograph there is a Morris Minor from Penang with the registration number P 8458. The car parked beside it carries the Perak registered number plate, AC 1970.
Shaik Adam was famous for the 'Hanafi' mosque he endowed, built in 1908, at a cost of $500,000.
