Remark : The picture, part of a 27 card set, shows Native Sugar Mill, Malaya (card No. 26). On the reverse of the card is the description, "The cultivation of sugar-cane in Malaya is now entirely confined to small areas where it is grown for eating purposes. The sugar-cane is a tall grass or reed, reaching a height of from eight to twelve feet. It is said that cane was cultivated by Chinese in Province Wellesley long before the colonisation of Penang in 1786".
