Conference Of Rulers Of The Federated Malay States (DURBAR)
The Federated Malay States was formed on the 1st July 1896, consisting of the states of Perak, Selangor, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan. Hence, the first Conference of Rulers of the Federated Malay States or Durbar was held in July 1897, at Istana Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. This meeting was between the Malay Rulers or Sultans of the Federated Malay States, the Resident-General of the Federated Malay States, the Governor of the Straits Settlement and the British Residents of the respective Federated Malay States.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss the affairs between the four states such as economy, development, security and religious matters. When the Federation of Malaya was formed in 1948, the Conference of Rulers of the Federated Malay States became the Conference of Rulers, attended by all the rulers of the nine Malay states.
