Remark : These two photographs show the premise belonging to the Ongs of Tapah. The photograph on the left shows the godown in Tapah bought by Ong Bee Thye in 1917 for 17,000 dollars from Harper Gilfarland who used it for washing and storing tin ore. This photograph was most probably taken in the year 1924 shortly after Ong Bee Thye’s demise. It shows Tan Siew Ewe, his wife, with her 6 children.
The photograph on the right shows the same premise in the 70’s. During that time, the Ongs became the biggest wholesaler for electrical product like TV sets and housewhole Electrical Products for the whole of Malaya winning two Morris Station wagons and later two Mercedes 190D motor cars.
