A Porcelain Opium Pillow

Subject :A Porcelain Opium Pillow
Published By : None
Location : Ipoh
Estimated Year : 1910
Media Type : Artifact
Source : Ian Anderson, Ipoh / Kinta Properties Group
Remark :

This, green patterned, white pillow shows signs of being regularly used over a long period as it has severe smoke staining on one corner (face and top). The pillow measures 14cmx11cmx6.5cm and is hollow with access through one end and decorative holes at the other. From the smoke stains it is evident that the smoker laid on his right hand side with his eyes at the open end. Legend has it that such a smoker would put his money inside the pillow where he could watch it/be close to it while he was smoking.
