A Forgotten Hero – By Dato Seri Yuen Yuet Leng
A page from Dato Seri’s album recalling memories of the late Inspector Chew Kim Chuan, a George Medalist.
Yuen recalls that young Inspector Chew, a Special Branch Contracts Inspector in Selangor during the 1st Emergency who was involved in several Special Branch operations and is especially noted for his role in the elimination of CCM Yeong Kuo, Chin Peng’s second in-command, for which he was awarded the George Medal in 1965.
The left hand picture shows a cancer stricken ex-Inspector Chew at the Selayang Hospital in Kuala Lumpur with his sister (Chew Yin Hua) and Yuen at the bedside.
The pictures to the right are of the funeral of Inspector Chew in Rawang attended by Chin Sek Goon and Tham, ex-fellow officers. But Yuen was unable to attend the funeral due to a prior engagement at the Leon Chamber talks.
Sadly, Yuen recalls that there was no response from Bukit Aman despite an e-mail informing them of the funeral.
