Remark : The Book is about a joint operation involving the Police, Armed Forces and the Special Branch and their efforts in eliminating the last strongholds of the communists in the districts of Sungei Siput and Ipoh. When the Operation commenced in 1958, it was the latter’s last armed bastion within the country.

Yuen Yuet Leng, who was then the DSBO (District Special Branch Officer) in Sungei Siput, played a very vital role in this Operation. It is significant that generally, the communist eliminations were equally achieved through kills, normal surrenders and Special Branch field operations – ‘a commendable testimony’ to very admirable military and intelligence operations.

Of special significance was the launching of the ‘Food Denial Operation’ – a counter insurgency measure, of which a narrative and analysis on its implementation and success achieved, is deliberated within the text. The book also provides an insight into the security background in Central Perak in the early years of the Emergency.
