Remark : This photograph was taken on 3 March 1934. It records the members of the Old Michaelian’s Association (OMA), first formed in 1933, on the occasion of the opening of their Association’s premises – located directly behind the group.
In the centre is Brother Director Dositheus, honoured as the Honorary President of the association, with the former (and first) headmaster, Mr P J Morsingh on his right.
Brother Dositheus was SMI Director from September 1929 until January 1936, originally hailing from Brittany in France. He provided great encouragement to music and to the OMA. Consequently the students who learnt to play their instruments then joined the new orchestra he instituted then went on to join the OMA and this led to the formation of an OMA orchestra in 1936
Annual fixture (until the outbreak of World War II), for OMA was a reunion dinner and challenge matches, with the Georgians from Taiping, to football, hockey, badminton, table tennis and billiards.
