Location : Ipoh
Estimated Year : 1947
Media Type : Photograph
Source : Margaret Smith (nee Chan), UK
Remark : The first picture in this series shows an aerial view of Ipoh’s Old Town.
They were all originally framed on the wall of a Kopitiam in Theatre Street, Ipoh (currently a pharmacy). When the Kopitiam closed, they were rescued by the owner’s granddaughter, our donor, and after she married Mr Chris Smith she took them to UK with her. We are grateful to her for allowing us to display them.
Note: Pictures No 24 and 26 are missing from this series. If anyone has a copy of them, do let us know.
On the right is the Kinta River. Further up the river is the Hugh Low Bridge, partially hidden by the coconut trees in the centre of the picture.
