Remark :

This photograph reproduced from 'Perak and the Malays' shows ex-Sultan Ismail's village at Blanja at the Perak River. Ex-Sultan Ismail generally resided at Blanja, as his new mines were more accessible from there, although his family all stayed in Kinta. Being suspected to have conspired in Birch's murder, the ex-Sultan Ismail was pursued by British troops from Blanja all the way to Patani, north of Perak.
