Subject :Sketches – Scenes from Old Pictures, Part 2
Published By : Amiruddin
Location : Ipoh
Estimated Year : 1997
Media Type : Ephemera

Remark :

In this second part, another two sketches by Amiruddin have been featured – one of Kuala Kangsar and the other of Ipoh.

The picture on the left is the Istana Kenangan in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak. This palace was built as a temporary residence for Sultan Iskandar Shah, while the official palace was under construction. Interestingly this palace was built without using a single nail! The design and craftsmanship is said to reflect the fine art of the state of Perak.

The picture on the right is the civic centre in Ipoh. In this aerial view, the Ipoh Railway Station can be seen facing the viewer (bottom, left). Also in the sketch is the Town Hall and the court house. In the centre is the scenic park in front of the railway station.
