The picture shows what we believe to be the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) of the Federation of Malaya Police Force. The date is a rough estimate. The police badge on the helmet is without the ‘crown’, hence we think the picture was taken in 1958 or before; the Federation of Malaya Police Force was bestowed the ‘Royal’ title in 1958. In the picture, the FRU are seen wearing khaki shirt and shorts, with white anklets. They also have rattan woven shields.
