This photograph, was taken by the German photographer A Kaulfuss, dates around before 1908 and shows the view the Padang and part of Old Town. 

In the foreground of the picture a solitary rickshaw coolie pulls his fare to an unknown destination, while in the distance can be seen Hale Street with its row of matching houses. On the right there are some government buildings. The photograph is taken from a coloured postcard certainly from the A Kaulfuss collection.
