Remark :

We thank our donor - Larry Sawyer - for this picture. Larry's father Roy Sawyer was part of the 'Malim Nawar Family'; the Sawyers and many other families who lived near and worked at the Malim Nawar Power Station. This power station was part of the Perak River Hydro-Electric Power Company Ltd, which had its HQ along Cooper Road in Ipoh.

With reference to the first picture, the buildings marked are as follows:

  1. Workshops
  2. Power Station
  3. Electrical Grid
  4. Cooling Ponds
  5. Cooling Towers
  6. End of rail line
  7. Oil
  8. Rail line, coal dumped into grid
  9. Administration Block, which included the Superintendent's office (2nd storey) as well as the Chemist and Dresser
  10. Shaded parking lot
  11. Coal

The red arrows show 'water in' and 'water out', following to and from the plant. The green arrow shows the road to Malim Nawar.

The second picture shows, from left to right: Stuart Dundas (from Chenderoh Dam), Dr Lim Swee Aun (Minister of Commerce and Industry), Frederick Saxey (Superintendent of the power station) and John Smith (General Manager). See a similar picture here.
