The 'A' Troop Experience - Part 3
This is the third part of "The 'A' Troop Experience", generously donated to us by Tom Eadie, who served throughout 1955 to 1956 in Malaya.
"After seven weeks 'A' Troop left Sungai Siput and moved into far more acceptable facilities in an unoccupied Malay Police Post at Salak Bahru North on the 12th of June 1955. No more uncomfortable tents (for the moment!), wood and brick quarters, reasonably civilised ablutions including showers and plenty of opportunities to relax. Being now in a static position, opportunities for complete 4 gun operations became less and we found ourselves being employed as a far more mobile unit with one or two guns moving around the area and providing fire support wherever needed."
The first picture is that of the 'A' Troop at Salak Bahru (Tom Eadie seated front row, far right) with Bombadier (Bdr) Batement, Bombadier (Bdr) Fenton, Gunners (Gnr) Carman, Sweeney and Frude of the Able 2 gun crew absent from photo indicates it was presumably taken between the 11th and 17th July around the time of the first 'Premature' (which will be continued in Part 4 of this series of photographs). The second picture is that of the troop performing food check on rubber tappers, the next picture is that of the troops performing identity checks.
Last but not least is titled as "They who must be obeyed!!" (from left to right) Lieutenant (Lt.) "Paddy Burke", 2nd Lieutenant (2/Lt.) Kirkman, 2nd Lieutenant (2/Lt.) King with the troop mascot and Troop (Tp) Commander (Cp) Captain (Capt.) "Pansy" Potter.
