The 'A' Troop Experience - Part 7
This is the sixth part of "The 'A' Troop Experience", generously donated to us by Tom Eadie, who served throughout 1955 to 1956 in Malaya.
"In June 1956, the extent of our time on active service was drawing to a close and with one final bulled-up parade at Taiping HQ attended by the complete Battery, we were presented with the silver General Service medal by Field Marshall Sir John Harding, the Chief of the General Staff. We then returned to Boh to hand over duties to the incoming 48th Field Regiment who immediately who immediately irritate us with their ill-mannered dismissal of the slightest advice with regard to their future comfort. So we abandoned them to their ridiculous military pomposity and having hurriedly purchased a range of gifts delivered by one of the shops in Tanah Rata and presented the Boh manager with a silver bowl in recognition of the inconvenience of our stay (Wonder if that's still around) three days later with goodbyes and thanks to Mr. Singhs team who saw us off, we withdrew down to Nee Soon Transit Camp in Singapore and endured more monsoon battering under canvas before the complete 25th Field Regiment Royal Artillery embarked on the troopship Empire Ken, a former WWII German Navy U-Boat Depot Ship."
