Remark :

The picture shows a shop house block at the junction of Belfield (Jalan Sultan Yussuf) and Hale Street which was also known as Jalan Bandaraya in the 70s and 80s (present day Jalan Tun Sambanthan).

According to Ipoh Remembered, the shop facing the camera used to be Nara's Elite Art Studio, Nara was an active member of Ipoh's business and civic community for the better part of the 1910s and 1920s. Nara was one of those listed that helped Charles Alma Baker raise money for the war-planes that were given to the government during the First War.

The shop next to it (right) used to be the originl Star Barbers and the son of proprietor of the Belfield Street shop, Karu, told us in 2010:

"When i was a new born baby I stayed at the 2nd shop (Barber shop) until i was 3 years old before moving to the other barber shop (Star Hair Dressing Saloon) along the Jalan Sultan Yussuf (Belfield Street). Now I’m already 40 years old. Thanks for the photo.

And Karu said again in 2012:.

This barber shop (upper picture) is no longer exist as it has already demolished and reconstructed as new building (RHB Bank) opposite Ipoh Padang. I was born and was staying above the shop until i was 3 years old. After that my dad shifted us to the Star Hair Dressing Saloon."

On the left of the picture, where the cars are parked, is the Ipoh Padang.
