An Ipoh New Jubilee Cabaret Dance Coupon
This is a dance coupon of the New Jubilee Cabaret Ipoh which was purchased at 42 cents inclusive of tax. The coupons came in books of 5 and each one was only valid for one dance. Male patrons, particularly the British Forces, frequented the Ronggeng Kiosk for thrills with the 'Taxi Dancers' and dances ranged from ronggeng, samba, rhumba, waltz, quickstep and jive. It was often the latter that caused the men the most interest!
The cabaret was part of the second Jubilee Park complex in Ipoh, owned by the Shaw Brothers, at the corner of Brewster Road and Cowan Street and was Ipoh's foremost entertainment centre including: an amusement park; The Grand Theatre; the Chinese Concert Hall; and the Jubilee Cabaret. Bangsawan stars employed to perform under contract in these amusement parks were later engaged by Shaw Brothers to act in the movies.
This was a fun 'pay-day' outing for the British troops stationed in Ipoh at that time.
