This is a picture of Pat Price on his Vincent HRD motorcycle, registration number S 341. Pat Price was a mining engineer in Malaya for 30 years, spending most of his time on the tin dredges arounf Kampung Gajah.

Mr P J Price was appointed as a Shift Engineer by the Anglo-Oriental (Malaya) Company. His letter of employment stated that he was subject to a probationary period of 6 months with a salary of $350 per month. After six months, if the management was satisfied, his service would be extended for another 2 1/2 years with a pay of $375 per month. He would be working at stated shift hours operating dredges or other plant. The Company would provide him with leave of 6 months at his full salary upon completion of the 3 year service. The letter was issued by the Director of Anglo-Oriental(Australia) Pty Ltd.

The Vincent HRD motorcycle started out as the product of the unsuccessful HRD Company named after its founder Howard Raymond Davies. Philip C Vincent, bought the name for £500 and the new machines were called Vincent HRD. In 1949, the 'HRD' portion of the logo was dropped to prevent identity confusion with Harley-Davidson and the machines were sold under the Vincent name.

The first Vincent HRD twin, given the name Rapide, was introduced in October 1936. It incorporated motorcycling's first fully suspended rear frame. Utilizing a triangular rear frame with springing under the seat, this feature was used on all Vincents produced from 1936 through 1955. In addition, Vincents bristled with innovations such as foot shift, 4-speed gearboxes and side stands.

The 998cc, air-cooled V-Twin produced 45hp and achieved a top speed of 110 miles per hour.
