Remark : The article tells us of the improvements brought about by the 11th Dato’ Panglima Kinta, Dato’ Sri Adika Raja, in the town of Ipoh, especially among the Malay community. In him and the Dato’ Muda, Che Wan bin Mohamed Yusuff, Ipoh had two able Malay leaders who were able to rally their kinsmen to improve the state of the Kinta Malays. Dato’ Sri Adika Raja himself was a great entrepreneur. He built a number of picturesque townhouses facing the Ipoh padang and the site of The Grand Hotel, opened on December 16 1909, was leased by PZ Creet from him. The Grand Hotel later became one of the finest hotels in the Straits Settlements after an expansion and upgrades that included a large dining room lit entirely by electricity. He was an accomplished chess and billiards player and was one of the few locals who socialized with Europeans on an equal footing.
