Memorial Service Organised By The Royal Malaysian Police For Those Who Fell In The Emergency
The Commemorative Ceremony for those who fell in the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) and were interred in the Anglican Cemetery at Batu Gajah which the planters fondly named as “God’s Little Acre”, has been held annually on the second Saturday in June, since 1980.
The first service was organised by the then Officer Commanding Police District Batu Gajah, DSP R Thambipillay, with the permission of the Chief Police Officer Perak, Deputy Commissioner of Police Yuen Yuet Leng. It took place during the Police Week Celebrations on April 10, 1980.
It took the form of a service in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Batu Gajah followed by a short prayer and wreath laying in the cemetery. Both the service and prayer that followed were led by the Reverend Andrew Sullivan.
From left to right the photographs, taken on that day, show:

Dato' Almeida and DSP Thambipillay with guests assembled in front of the graves of the first three planters, Wally Walker, Ian Christian and John Allison, killed in Sungei Siput on 16 June 1948. These murders heralded the declaration of a State of Emergency which lasted until 1960. It was known as the Malayan Emergency.
Dato Almeida takes the salute. Standing beside him are DSP Thambipillay and Deputy Brigade Commander Police Field Force, Ulu Kinta, who is un-named.
The occasion continues to this day (2013).
