Two Navy, Army And Air Force Institutes Tea Cups
The Navy, Army & Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) was established in 1921 and serves all members of the British Armed Forces at home and overseas. It runs shops, pubs, clubs and canteens on shore and at sea and also provides similar facilities in support of troops in the front line. From May 1946 The British Military Administration requisitioned the entire The Perak Chinese Amateur Dramatic Association Building for the NAAFI (Navy Army Air Force Institute) Canteen.
These two NAAFI cups, found in Ipoh, are probably a reminder of the days of the Malayan Emergency when there were hundreds of British troops around Perak. If you note the slight difference in colour on the photograph that is how they are, presumably having come from a different batch. They are 8cm diameter at the mouth and 7cm high.
