A Calendar From 1985 – Part 2
The picture on the extreme left (April) is Kellie’s Castle, located near Batu Gajah, Perak. This castle was the brainchild of William Kellie Smith, a planter from Scotland. Unfortunately, the castle was never completed because the labourers were hit by the Spanish Flu soon after World War 1, and Kellie himself died of pneumonia in 1926. The castle is now a popular tourist attraction and was also one of the sets for the film ‘Anna and the King’.
The next picture (May) is the Ipoh Branch of Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysian Central Bank). The headquarters was established in Kuala Lumpur on 26th January 1959. On the right (June) is St Michael's Institution (SMI), one of the many schools established round the country by the La Salle Brothers.
