The Ho's Of Batu Gajah - Ho Pan Seng And Wife Khee Yueh Kuen Sultan Yussof School
Ho Pan Seng, born in 1916, the fourth son and seventh offspring of Ho Yuk Phooi, studied first at Yuk Kwan School, then the Government English School, both in Batu Gajah before transferring to St Michael's Institution (SMI) in Ipoh. He took the train every morning, a 20 minute ride.
There were several students taking this same journey daily, one being Khee Yueh Kuen who was studying at the Perak Girls' School, Ipoh.
After SMI Pan Seng worked for his elder brother in Taiping while awaiting college. But thanks to his father's gambling, disaster struck and there was no money to pay for his college education. He therefore applied and was accepted as Probationer Land Bailiff in the Kinta Land Office. It was 1938. He continued in government service being reappointed Settlement Officer in the Kinta District on 1 April 1946 which led to his being on the pensionable list.
Exactly when the two school commuters met and married is not currently known.
