Enamel Advertising Signboards (2) - The Standard Oil Company Of New York
In 1893 Standard Oil products were first sold in Peninsular Malaysia.
This double-sided enamel sign nearing the name Standard Oil Company of Bew York and a Tiger as its logo is very early.Following the break-up of Standard Oil in 1911, the Standard Oil Company of New York, or Socony, was founded, along with 33 other successor companies. In 1920, the company registered the name "Mobiloil" as a trademark. Consequently we estimate this sign as being from 1919. Eventually after mergers and deals the company in Malaysia became known as Esso (in 1961)which today is known as Exxon.
