An Interview With Dato' Tajudin Ali - A Man Of Transport
This interview with Dato' Tajudin Ali, presented as an e-Book, was conducted at his house in Ipoh. As he describes his early life: "Our life has almost always been in danger...first of all the Thais drove us out of our homeland, then the Japanese stole everything we owned and the Communists came next. Consequently everything was lost".
Although the early years of his life are devoid of records, documents or photographs, this story is of a fascinating man who, despite everything apparently being stacked against him, made his mark in the world; An entrepreneur, tin miner, successful business man, owner of several companies and a Member of Parliament - but it all started by riding his father's elephants to the tin mines when he was 5-years old.
After this early employment his father sent him to St George's Institution Taiping to be educated and this in turn led to his early career as a policeman just prior to the Japanese invasion. However transport and an entrepreneurial spirit was in his blood and soon he had tin mines and a small bus company, Gajah Transport which survived the Malayan Emergency and led to even greater things - petrol stations and a more transport - Perak Roadways.
It is a good read!
