Towkay Chung Thye Phin On Honeymoon
The image on the left shows Chung Thye Phin and his wife, Tan Sim Hiang, relaxing on their honeymoon in Chungking China in either 1923 or 1924. Of course, as the tradition was in those days this was not his only wife. In fact, he had 7 wives but was survived by 6 of them who gave him 10 sons and 7 daughters.
The second image on the right shows his first wife Madam Khoo Joo Bee, also on holiday in China but at a much earlier date.
On another trip to China with yet another wife Madam Lee Sau-yeng, he undertook a perilous trip up the scenic gorges of the Yangtze River at Chungking, thus earning for himself the distinction of being the first non-China-born Chinese to have made the venture.
