Remark : Brother Dositheus (in French Dosithee-Regis), known to all as Brother Dos, was the Brother Director of SMI from 1929 to 1936, taking over the post from Brother Henry.
A man of humane qualities, the object of his solicitude was not so much the school, but the boy himself. Each boy to him was a vessel of potential good or evil and he did not grudge giving as much time as was needed to make each a better boy. Consequently he was their friend as well as guide in life and they appreciated his care.
Despite some serious hard work on his part to expand the school, ‘authority’ prevented any expansion and despite every effort he was unable to overcome this stumbling block. He is therefore mainly remembered for giving the school an additional playing field by filling up adjacent swampland with sand from the river.
However he is best remembered for founding the Old Michaelians Association (OMA), becoming its first honorary President and being the driving force behind it until he left the school, being replaced by Brother Finan.
A Frenchman by birth he spoke English with a very fine accent and at the farewell dinner given in his honour he was taken to task by Lt Col C Rae for having deceived him with his speech, for the Colonel had always taken him for an Englishman.
He passed away peacefully at St Patrick’s, Katong, Singapore in November 1952.
