The Movieland Theatre In The Lam Looking Building
The photograph from a faded 35mm slide shows the Lam Looking building constructed for Towkay Lam Look Ing. It is situated close to Yau Tet Shin's New Market in Laxamana Road. At the top floor of Lam Looking Bazaar is the Movieland Theatre which took the place of the Celestial Hotels's Cabaret after the hotel closed down. The Cantonese opera movies that were shown in the Movieland Theatre attracted many elderly moviegoers. This photo was processed by Sing Chow Photo Studio using D & P Color Films on 13 March 1963. It hs been modified to grayscale to improve the reproduction.
An interesting feauture in this photograph is the huge F&N bottle on the top left of the building advertising their fanous range of aerated soft drinks. Although hidden by the telegraph wires there is a second giant bottle at the other end of the building
