Location : Kampar, Perak
Estimated Year : 1957
Media Type : Photograph
Source : Ho Hoo Wan, Ipoh
Remark : Despite the dangers of deep mining pools, treachorous waterfalls and communist terrorists during the Malayan Emergency, young people were often out and about in the 1950s, enjoying their freedom with apparently few reports of accidents. In this series of photographs a group from Batu Gajah are enjoying a visit to the Kampar waterfalls for relaxation, swimming and a picnic. The photographs show, from left to right:

  • In the 1950's young people walked. Here the group are setting out for the waterfalls from Kampar Town, having taken a bus from Batu Gajah.

In the photograph (from left to right at the front) are Yap Fook Kong, Ho Kuan Mee, Phang Peng Yoke.

  • With Thong Kai Seng striding out in front of the final three they leave Kampar Town behind.

  • Getting closer to the waterfalls (from left to right) are: Thong Kai Chan, Ho Hoo Wan, Thong Kai Foo, Ho Kuan Thai, Thong Kai Seng, Ho Wan Phui.

  • Our donor Ho Hoo Wan is the grandson of Ho Yuk Phooi, a well known name in Batu Gajah.
