Location : 3, Treacher Street, Ipoh
Estimated Year : 2010
Media Type : Photograph
Source : The Committee Han Chin Pet Soo
Remark :

These photographs taken by Ian Anderson with kind permission from the committee of the Han Chin Pet Soo Hakka Miners' Club, founded by Towkay Leong Fee, show three views of the first floor of the club which is their Mahjong Room.

Entering the room is a long expanse of original tiles leading to several games tables (left hand picture). Beyond these are the front windows looking out on to Treacher Street. Each side of the windows, tucked into the corners are antique wash hand basins manufactured in Glasgow.

Close to the windows on the left hand side wall (middle picture) is the history of the club in Chinese.

Down the left hand wall are a number of photographs and press cuttings, together with relaxing chairs and other fittings. These may all be found under the search "All" Han Chin Pet Soo.

The last photograph, bottom left, some neatly framed Chinese characters record an old habit that came from mainland China decades ago. In English it reads "Please do not spit on the floor". Originally, to accompany this sign there would probably have been specialist decorative spittoons for the patrons.
