Descendants Of Leong Fee - The Leong Sisters - Granddaughters In Floral
This great picture was taken in Ipoh on 9 September 1941. It features the 5 Leong sisters, granddaughters of Towkay Leong Fee and daughters of Leong Eng Khean and his second wife Chow Yoon Soo. The photograph was donated by Sybil de Roquigny, great granddaughter of Towkay Leong Fee and daughter of Margaret Vivian Leong Foong Leng. Sybil's maiden name was Sybil Wong Sui Mei.
Dressed in identical traditional floral outfits known as "Samfoo (Samfu)" they are:
Standing on the left with a big bow on her hair: Irene Leong Mei Leng the fifth and youngest daughter. She was given away at birth by her distraught mother as Leong Eng Khean was extremely annoyed with Chow Yoon Soo for having another child. Leong Mei Leng came back often to visit her mother as well as her siblings. She sympathized with her mother as the”red lantern” was raised often with everyone scudding away in fear when Leong Eng Khean arrived. And there were no contraceptives! Leong Mei Leng was not named in his testament;
In the middle Joyce Leong Yin Leng the third daughter, born 1925;
On the right Margaret Vivian Leong Foong Leng, the second daughter, born 1924;
Seated on the left: Leong Aun Leng the eldest daughter, born 1918, (and the daughter who was disowned);
On the arm of the “chair” Linda Leong Kam Leng the fourth daughter.
